Here are 6 ways you can still get organic reach on social media in 2019:

  1. Curate user-generated content
  2. Use native video
  3. Go live
  4. Turn on comment ranking
  5. Reply to comments with gifs and memes
  6. Place links in the first comment

1. Curate user-generated content

According to the latest statistics, user-generated content on social networks has a 4.5% higher conversion rate. (Source:  HubSpot)

As a marketer, you strive to create branded content that is aesthetically pleasing, original and helps your team meet its goals. It’s not an easy task!

Why should you relinquish that and turn to user-generated content?

Because after a while even your most loyal fans and followers become numb to your branded content no matter how beautiful your images are. They get so accustomed to your social media posts that they stop seeing them.

In web usability, it’s called ad blindness. Ad blindness is where visitors to a website consciously or unconsciously choose to ignore banner ads or banner-like information.

User-generated content is a way for brands to stand out from the crowd.

Hopefully, it stops the user’s mindless browsing and gets their attention by showing them something fresh and unexpected.

Benefits of User-generated content:

  • Authenticity
  • Originality
  • Drives customers’ trust
  • Drives purchasing decisions
  • Inspires brand loyalty

2. Use native video

In 2016, 100 million hours of video content were watched on Facebook daily.

Native videos have 10x higher reach on Facebook compared to YouTube links.

On Instagram, user-time spent watching videos is up more than 80% year over year

3. Go live

On social media, the way to increased organic reach is through engagement.

Every social media marketer’s goal is to create posts which prompt the brand’s followers to like it, comment on it or share it with their friends.

Facebook Live generates 35% more engagement than regular videos (Source: Social Media Lab).

When should you go live?

Go live when you release a new product, when you announce the latest collaboration partner, to show behind the scenes or how it’s made, to take questions, do interviews, comment other events live or to poll your audience.

4. Turn on comment ranking

Getting comments in the first minutes after the post was published signals to the network that your post is valuable because your followers engage with it.

The more comments, the more visibility and organic reach your post receives.

To attract more engagement, you want to put your best foot forward and show the most relevant comment first.

Here’s how to turn comment ranking on / off:

  • Click Settings at the top of your Page
  • From General, click Comment Ranking
  • To turn comment ranking on, click to check the box next to See most relevant comments by default
  • To turn comment ranking off, click to uncheck the box next to See most relevant comments by default
  • Click Save Changes.

5. Reply to comments with gifs/memes

When your post receives comments, it’s mandatory you reply to each of these comments.

But if you want to make it more engaging and exciting for your followers, use gifs and/or memes.

Gifs and memes are forms of entertainment anyone can use.

So if they are in alignment with your brand communication guidelines, use gifs/memes you can find on the internet or create them yourself.

6. Place links in the first comment

Every social network has developed its own system to keep you connected as long as possible. The system provides you with everything you need: you can message your friends, post videos and photos, write your ideas and purchase products in-app.

Posts with links are frowned upon because they allow users to leave their digital space. That’s why posts with links receive less visibility than posts with no links.

But if you cannot place the link in your post what can you do?

Place the link in your first comment.
